In 2005, I taught my daughter how to crochet. I had learned knitting & crocheting from my mother…who learned from her mother…who learned from her mother…who learned from hers. And that great great grandmother’s pieces of needlework are a treasured part of my family memorabilia collection today. My daughter carried on what has become somewhat of a “family tradition” – learned quickly and was soon designing & stitching together hats and accessories with impressive skill. Later that year we started a small craft/artisan business and named it Holston Mountain Hat Project, after the mountain I lived below at the time.

The mission of Holston Mountain Hat Project is to design, create, sell and donate the headwear and accessories we have designed & created. I sell my items at Music Festivals, Art/Craft Faires , Private Shows and Holiday Markets. Items are also sold through four online platforms, including this website. The “Project” involves donations to organizations in need of warm/functional hats such as groups collecting hats for chemo patients, hospitals with NICUs, disaster assistance providers and shelters for the homeless and/or victims of domestic abuse. Hats are donated to local, regional, national and international organizations.

The majority of my inventory for sale are hats I stitch with a variety of natural, synthetic, upcycled and recycled fibers using knitting and crocheting techniques. The most popular style in my hat inventory are what I call “Confetti Hats” – each piece made with a variety of yarns resulting in hats with lots of texture, sparkle & bling. First inspired while vending my handmade items at Music Festivals, these long slouchy beanie hats are playful, quirky and quite unique , each custom made to be truly one of a kind. They in turn became the inspiration for our slogan “It’s A Party On Your Head!” which we trademarked in 2014. Over the years, the Confetti Hat Collection has expanded to four categories: Festivals & Celebrations, Holidays, School/Team Colors and Unique Gifts. In April of 2026, I added e-commerce capability to the Holston Mountain Hat Project website (holstonhats.com) for the purpose of dedicating an online shop exclusively for the most popular hats in this collection. Customization options are also available.

So for those looking for a one of a kind, eye-catching accessory with sparkle & bling to “top off” that outfit you plan to wear at that special occasion… OR a unique gift for that special person with a fondness for glitz and glam – take a look around this online shop. Questions, suggestions & feedback are always welcome so please feel free to contact me.

I HAVE, INDEED, WORN MANY HATS MYSELF!

Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Fiber Artist/Crafter, Small Business Owner, Retired Midwife/Nurse/Paramedic/Lactation Consultant.
